Lancome is celebrating the 10th anniversary of its iconic Juicy Tubes lip glosses by launching a new limited edition collection called “Natural Origin“, which was designed by the Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama and that includes six new tube designs. We particularly like Barron Duquette Spring-Summer 2009 Collection, which is both classy elegant and contemporary bold. Such collection pieces as Anahita Shrug and Pristine Cynthia Silk Jumper are simply made for wearing together. The short-sleeve Anahita Shrug is done in onyx-colored sheer spiral polyester lace. The Pristine Cynthia Silk Jumper is done in onyx-colored pure silk. It features smocked strapless neckline, empire waist and cropped legs with cinched cuffs.

This Spring-Summer 2009 season, Safari theme is particularly popular with many designers and Barron Duquette is not an exception. The Addison Romper in done in olive colored fabric, which is 52% cupro and 48% rayon. It features crew neck and 6-button closure at the front. The romper has ruching at yoke and patch pocket at bust, as well as extended-tab, double hook-and-eye closure and ruching at drop waist. The romper bottom features slant pockets at hip and welt pockets at back. The romper has a zipper fly. 1.25″ cuff at bottom hem and 2″ cuff at short sleeves. Two of them are located in Montreal and a new address opened in Toronto last October in the chic Yorkville neighbourhood.

Gaby Basora was born in Chicago. Her great grandfather was a tailor.  When she was a child, her family moved to Seattle, where her mother opened an art house movie theater in the now gentrified Pike Place Market. Gaby’s early childhood memories are all about roaming the stalls of the market with her sisters, soaking in the smells, sounds, colors and textures.

During her high school years, she moved to Amsterdam and then to Sarah Lawrence College. At the age of sixteen, she came to New York, where she began her studies at the university. Gaby Basora’s interest in fashion emerged naturally during those battles with her sisters or friends over what to wear, or the refashioning of odd bits found at the Salvation Army, or the desire to hold on to wrappers from an airplane nut package—blowing it up on the photocopier to see how it would look as fabric.

After college when she was not working, she lived on her bike. She constantly found herself riding to Brooklyn, to Jackson Heights, the Bronx, to find fabric stores, obscure clothing stores, restaurants, music, faces, smells. About ten years ago, Gaby Basora started working as a styling assistant as a favor to a friend and pretty soon styling her own jobs became her job.

For the last eight years, Christian Francis Roth has been primarily consulting and designing primarily under the names of other fashion brands.  Spring 2009 is going to the come-back season for Christian Francis, who is entering the fashion scene with his own new collection and brand, called “Francis”, that has been positioned between the upper-end contemporary and entry-level designer tiers during the September 2008 Fashion Week in New York.

Christian Francis Roth’s Spring 2009 spirited contemporary collection is emanates a feeling of fun sophistication that is rich in playful detailing, fresh color and offbeat charm. I particulaly like his Accost Polo dress, a preppy parody of shirts by such titans as Lacoste and Polo by Ralph Lauren. According to some rumors, the Accost dress might have been removed from production upon the advice of Christian Francis Roth’s legal councel. Funny as it may seem to a consumer, I think, I’d buy the dress, Lacoste and Ralph Lauren maynot be that receptive of a joke of an embroidered Lacoste alligator biting Ralph Lauren’s polo rider and worst of all all, both Lacoste and Ralph Lauren could conclude that as a legal challenge.

Another item that caught my attention is a Kilp Pin Skirt adorned with prints of three oversized pins. This skirt reminds me of late eighties when oversized pins were in fashion. Women used to wear them in bunches, decorating with those pins every piece of their wadrobe, starting with laps of their jackets and ending with hats and bags. Nice skirt for size “0″ and size “2″ girls, maybe even size “4″. But I’d make the skirt longer, keep it above the knee length, but a bit longer, so that women with more sumtuous forms would feel comfortable going after that piece.
